Q & As

Will it hurt?

Laser therapy

Most people feel a light pinging like a rubberband flicking your skin, as the laser pulses over the skin. While most people feel it they can also easily tolerate it.  If the treatment is on your face, it feels similar to being out in the sun. If it feels too warm, just raise your hand and your therapist will adjust the heat.

Your eyes will be covered for protection.

Dysport treatment

Most people feel a light prickle. If you are sensitive to needles we can numb the area using ice packs or an anaesthetic cream before treatment.

Will I need an injection?

No. There are no injections for laser facial or spider vein treatment.

How does it work?

Laser therapy

Your therapist glides the probe gently over the treatment area until the vessels reduce. The laser heats the abnormal vessels causing them to collapse and seal off. The probe has a cooling tip that protects your skin from the heat of the laser.

Dysport treatment

Dysport injections block signals from the nerves to the muscles, which means the muscles can’t contract and keep their shape. This relaxes and softens the fine lines and wrinkles on your face. For sweating treatment, the injections block the signals to the sweat glands so less sweat is produced.

How long does it take?

Laser therapy

Your first appointment is a 15-minute consultation to work out the best treatment plan for you. Your therapist may recommend an ultrasound scan if you have varicose veins. Sometimes these require treatment before your therapist can perform laser therapy for you. Your first laser treatment will typically be for 30 minutes.

Dysport treatment

Your first session will typically be for 30 minutes, which includes a consultation.

How many treatments will I need?

Laser therapy

The number of treatments will depend on the condition of the area being treated. Some patients only need one treatment while others need more to see improvement. Your therapist will estimate how many treatments you will need at your consultation.

Dysport treatment

Each treatment lasts approximately 16 weeks. We advise on having three-to-four monthly treatments for the first year, then as required after that. Results vary between patients.

Are there any side effects?

Laser therapy

After laser treatment the area may be slightly red for a short time, just like after waxing treatment. Your therapist will apply SPF 50 sunblock if your treatment is on your face. Your therapist will provide complete information about the benefits and risks at your consultation.

Dysport treatment

There may be a little pain, swelling or bruising where the injection was.

Is it safe?

Laser therapy

Our therapists are trained vascular nurses under the guidance of Richard Evans Vascular, so you are in safe hands. Laser therapy is a gentle procedure for fine vein and blood vessel treatment. The laser beam is safe on skin but can be harmful to the naked eye. We all wear safety glasses to protect our eyes. It’s been around for a long time and has a proven safety record.

Dysport treatment

This treatment has been around for over 20 years. The dose used for cosmetic treatments is very small. We only treat the face or armpits, where the ingredients stay, eventually being broken down by the body.

What do I need to do before my treatment?

If your treatment is on your face, we recommend not wearing moisturiser or makeup to your appointment. However, we are happy to take this off for you.

If treatment is on your legs, please ensure you don’t moisturise before you come.
